Costa Rica is hot. Almost 30 percent of the country’s surface consists of protected jungle, one of the results of 40 years of consistent reforestation. In addition, Costa Rica abolished its army in 1948 and its energy supply has been 98% renewable for the past 6 years. The United Nations declared Costa Rica the ‘greenest country in the world’ in September 2019.
The Costa Rican jungle is teeming with wildlife. Your Green Circle Experience will offer you unrivalled opportunities to enjoy Costa Rica’s abundant flora and fauna wherever you go. Sloths, monkeys, crocodiles, toucans, turtles…..You can spot them anywhere and the Costa Rican nature is often very accessible. With or without a guide.
Costa Rica truly is a little paradise. And it is our responsibility to keep it that way. If you choose to book our Green Circle Experience, you choose to support that goal. But you also choose to live your dream in an unprecedented way.

What’s in a name?
Hi everybody, my name is YouCan, because I love Youp and I love Toucans. That actually says it all. I am all about sustainability, sincerity, and being who I am. What you see is what you get. Let me first tell you about toucans. My owners, Renee and Ed, have started the Green Circle Experience back in 2014 as part of their travel agency Edventure Travel. This concept was completely in line with their company slogan, ‘’Find Edventure…. and live your dream!’’. The toucan became our company logo.
The Green Circle Experience is Ed’s way to live his dream. Creating ‘the most sustainable experience in the greenest country in the world’ and sharing this great experience with travellers from all over the world.
Now let me also tell you about Youp. When you don’t rent me, Youp is my favorite passenger. I take him to school, to his therapists and sometimes to doctors and hospitals. Youp was born with cerebral palsy and uses a wheel chair. He is 11 years old and sustainability is as important to him as it is for his parents. He is my biggest fan!
Good cause
Youp also cares for other children with cerebral palsy in Costa Rica, who do not have the same access to health care as him. If you rent me, 10% of your Green Circle Experience fee will be used to support these children and their families, giving them better access to information and the medical assistance they deserve but not always can afford.
By renting me, YouCan, you can make this happen and Renee, Youp and Ed already thank you in advance! By the end of each year, Renee and Ed will send all of you an update on what they achieved with your contributions.

Do you want to discover paradise in Youcan? Now you can!
Today you will drive a little deeper into nature to the next paradise, Rafiki Safari Lodge. This is a sustainable tent camp in the middle of the jungle. The owners don't only run a hotel, but also offer adventurous tours and are committed to the nature conservation around the lodge.
You will stay 2 nights at this lodge based on the Safarito Package. This means that there is one activity included during your stay. You can choose between rafting, horseback riding and a waterfall hike. There is also time to explore by yourself, or take time to relax.
Your luxury safari tent came originally from South Africa and provides you with the jungle feeling you are looking for. Because the lodge is so remote, all meals are included. In the evening you can enjoy a traditional braai, which is a South African bbq, and your hosts will ensure an unique and unforgettable blend of Costa Rican nature with an African touch!
Today you will drive further to San Gerardo de Dota. This is a charming village in one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica. It lies on Cerro de la Muerte, the mountain range that separates the Caribbean and Pacific coasts.
Just before the highest point (3300m) you descend to the beautiful green valley, carved by the river Savegre, where San Gerardo de Dota is located (2500m). Enjoy the breathtaking views along the way! Here you'll be staying at Dantica Lodge.
In the 1950s, a few Costa Rican families settled in this area. They proved to be fervent advocates of nature conservation and now promote sustainable tourism in the valley and the surrounding cloud forests. It is also one of the few places in Central America where you can still see the quetzal, the sacred bird of the Mayans in Mexico, now the national symbol of Guatemala, and without doubt one of the most extraordinary birds to be seen in the wild in Costa Rica.
It is absolutely worth getting up early and going on a guided tour to look for the quetzal! Besides the Quetzal you are also likely to see woodpeckers, hummingbirds and the small green Toucanet flying by. If you want some more action, you can hike along the river to two waterfalls, or go for a guided hike through the forest to the next village, Providencia de Dota. Ask for more info about this tour if you are interested.
Today you'll drive into the mountains to Turrialba, which means “river of fire” in the Huetar language. Here you stay in the colonial boutique hotel Casa Turire, which is situated on a beautiful estate near a large lake.
The rivers in this area are known for their wild waters; you can do some excellent rafting on the river, Rio Pacuare. You can also go hiking. For example in the reserve La Marta or around Guayabo national monument, where 3000 years ago a pre-Columbian society of 10,000 people lived in the rainforest. You can still find traces of their houses, aqueducts, and roads.
Horse riding, mountain biking, or a coffee tour are also among the possibilities. And a real must is of course a visit to the nearby Irazu volcano!
The final destination is Alajuela. Here you will conclude your journey in style at boutique hotel Villa San Ignacio. At the pool in the beautiful tropical garden, you can relax after all your adventures. Order a delicious cocktail or some coffee and enjoy your last day in Costa Rica.
Do you still feel like exploring the area? You can visit a coffee factory or go on a chocolate tour, as well, from the hotel it is not far to the volcano Poás.
The airport is only 7 km / 4,5 miles from the hotel. On the day of departure you can drop the rental car here, and a shuttle will take you to the departure halls.
On the day of departure the car will be picked up at the hotel. A driver will take you to the departure hall of the airport.
