Valle Escondido - Monteverde

Valle Escondido - Monteverde

The mountains of Monteverde are world-famous for its unique cloud forest. Located at 1400 m altitude, Monteverde is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes.
The town was founded in 1951 by the Quakers, a Protestant religious group from Alabama (USA). They started raising dairy cows and making Costa Rica’s best Monteverde cheese. In addition, the Quakers have been champions in nature conservation. Their commitment to preserving half of their property resulted in today’s protected cloud forest.

Your hotel
You will stay at the family-run hotel and organic farm, Valle Escondido Nature Reserve. Owner Jonah and his wife Susana are passionate about permaculture and have designed their hotel and farm around the core principles of this philosophy. Jonah hosts elaborate tours on this subject while taking you around the property.

At the restaurant, you can enjoy an authentic farm-to-table dinner and, at the same time, spot tropical birds and watch a spectacular sunset over the forests and the Gulf of Nicoya. The nature reserve adjoining the hotel is part of the biological corridor in Monteverde that protects many different species of wildlife and represents a unique ecosystem.
